The Story of Dippety
Dippety began in 2017, when Stephanie Gain turned a tiny 117m² duplex apartment in Lawnton into the beginnings of something much bigger.
After seven years working as a florist, Steph wanted to create something that wasn't limited to flowers. She wanted a place where all the things she loved could live together - flowers, plants, candles, handmade goods, gardening, creativity, nature and the simple joy of making beautiful things.
What started with rustic, woodland-inspired floral arrangements, homegrown plants, hand-poured soy candles and locally crafted gifts has continued to grow and evolve ever since.
Today, Dippety is a little bit of many things.
We grow and sell plants, create handmade soy candles and soaps, make dried flower arrangements, curate gifts and hampers, explore teas and teaware, collect beautiful homewares, experiment with gardening and DIY projects, and occasionally find ourselves completely fascinated by some new plant, craft or idea.
And that's really what Dippety has always been about.
Following curiosity. Making things. Growing things. Sharing beautiful things.
Dippety isn't intended to fit neatly into one category — it's a reflection of the many things that make us happy.
Behind The Name
The story of Dippety actually began long before the business did.
Steph grew up on a large cattle and Lucerne property in the Lockyer Valley, where she spent endless hours outside with animals, in the garden, climbing trees and wandering through the fields.
She was always making something or finding something new to become fascinated with.
She sketched the landscape, arranged wildflowers into displays for the dining room, collected rocks, experimented with crafts and wove baskets from water reeds by the dam.
There always seemed to be another project, another hobby or another little obsession waiting around the corner.
As her Dad would say, she was always "Dippy" and "Dip" between all these different interests.
And eventually, that became Dippety.
We later discovered that dippy can also mean “silly or foolish in usually an appealing way.”
Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a more fitting description.
Because Dippety has never been about doing just one thing.
It's about following those little sparks of curiosity that make you want to grow something, make something, learn something, create something or simply stop and admire something beautiful.
Dippety is a collaboration of Steph's many loves, passions, hobbies and curious little adventures — shared with others in the hope that they brighten someone's day.

More Than A Shop
Dippety has grown considerably since those first days in a tiny apartment.
While flowers and gifts may have been where we began, today we're interested in the whole experience of creating a beautiful, comfortable and inspiring space to live in.
You'll find handmade candles and soaps, plants, dried flowers, gifts, teas, homewares, gardening projects and plenty of things that simply make us smile.
Some things are grown.
Some are made.
Some are carefully chosen.
And some are born from a completely random idea that Steph simply couldn't resist trying.
That's part of the charm of Dippety.
You never quite know what you'll discover.
Our Style
We love things that feel a little different.
Our aesthetic is inspired by rustic woodland cottages, old-world charm, botanical gardens, candlelit evenings and the slightly mysterious beauty of nature.
Think earthy colours, dried flowers, lush greenery, handmade things, natural textures, cosy corners and little touches of magic.
We don't believe everything needs to be perfectly polished.
Sometimes the most beautiful things are the ones that feel lived-in, handmade and a little bit imperfect.
We want Dippety to feel like discovering a hidden little shop in the countryside — somewhere you can wander, explore and find something you didn't know you were looking for.
Earth-Kind Practices
We believe that enjoying beautiful things shouldn't mean forgetting about the world they come from.
As a small, home-based business, we try to make thoughtful choices wherever we can.
We select environmentally conscious supplies, ingredients and packaging where practical, reuse and recycle materials, make use of solar power and rainwater, and favour natural approaches to growing and caring for our plants wherever possible.
We aren't perfect, and we don't pretend to be.
We're simply always looking for ways to tread a little more lightly and make better choices as we grow.
A Small Business With A Personal Touch
Dippety is proudly owner-operated, which means there is a real person behind the messages, the candles, the plants, the gift wrapping and the occasionally chaotic collection of projects.
It also means we're able to offer the kind of personal service that can sometimes disappear in a big retail environment.

Dippety is based in the hills of D'Aguilar, Queensland.
As a small, home-based business, we're not a traditional shop with someone sitting behind a counter all day.
We're often growing plants, making candles, creating arrangements, working on orders, tending the garden or off delivering beautiful things to customers.
For that reason, visits and pickups are by appointment only.
